ugh

9 Feb

So I noticed yesterday, to my dismay, that MissHotcakes received some negative feedback on Etsy. this is extremely disappointing to me because I do my best to ship as quickly as possible, offer fair/reasonable prices, and clean all vintage pieces as best I can before I ship them off to their new homes. Perhaps I shouldn’t draw attention to this, however, this is what a blog is for, no?

I know it’s a fact of life that you can’t make everyone happy all the time, but I would have liked to have at least had a convo with this person before they publicly stated that I suck…but…what are you gonna do? apparently the piece was dusty and “dirty” (which…it was not, but I digress…) I’m definitely not trying to call this person out or anything, but I did want to share a few things, with you, my three or four readers, to feel better about this situation…

Vintage is vintage and things are not always in perfect condition, so yeah, you may get something that may be a little dry, crackly, or what-have-you. I take pictures…I don’t alter them in any way…and if there’s something wrong with it, I state it in the description so things like this don’t happen. I don’t mean to discount this person’s thought that she got a sub-par product, but I must respectfully disagree.

I didn’t think something like this would bother me so much, but…guess what!? It did, and I suppose this is only because I do care about MissHotcakes so much.

The one thing that helps me feel better about it is all my other satisfied customers and their lovely feedback they’ve left. I know I have gone out of my way on many occasions to make my customers happy, so I suppose in the end, that’s what I can take comfort in.

Starbursts

11 Dec

I love a good starburst clock.

I went on a modern home tour last spring, and this beauty was in one of the homes…

This is my friend Jeremy’s…

This one was at an antique store that I visited recently…

And another from another store…

I took this pic at a party a few years back, and eventually it made its way onto the cover of my friend’s band’s CD. (http://www.formerfriendsofyoungamericans.com/ - they have a great new album out, too…)

Someday I hope to have a real collection of these types of clocks, but until then, I have a photo collection, instead…

And on a sad note, I had to say good-bye to my little ferret, Boo, recently. She suddenly became very ill and there was no other choice :(
She was a great little mama, I had her since she was a baby – for over 7 years. Love you Boo!

Getting ready…

I am so excited for the Holiday Shoppe!
Here’s the info, if you’re local…

Facebook : http://tiny.cc/jh8yd

I’ve found a lot of awesome things for MissHotcakes…

There will also be some chances to win and be charitable at the same time :)

We’re having cookies, cocoa and a DIY wrapping station…so come out!

PS There’s rumors that Santa may be making an appearance, as well. We’ll see if they pan out! ;)

when I go to Copenhagen…

30 Oct

I will be staying at the Hotel Fox.

…nevermind that I have no imminent plans to go there, but…I really want to go to this hotel.

the outside may not look so special…

…but check out some of their rooms…

The lobby looks pretty sweet, too.

Check out their website, here: http://www.hotelfox.dk/

They have so many other cool rooms to browse! which would you choose, if you could?

I’m really blowing it here.

4 Oct

It’s been too long…but that just means I have stuff I can post.

These are all the way back from the FYF fest…Labor Day in LA.

Zankou Chicken!

Of course, I went to La Luz de Jesus, and since it was a new month, there was new art. There was some really amazing artists there…one in particular, Glenn Barr, who I love.

http://glbarr.com/

I’ll post the rest from La Luz and some from the fest itself later…

…here’s a sneak peek into something for next month’s vintage market…very excited about some new finds!!

Favorites, part II

27 Aug

Autumn De Wilde is such an amazing photographer. Every time I look at her tumblr (which you can find here: http://autumndewilde.tumblr.com/ ) it makes me really want to pick up my camera…

Not only do I love her style and the atmosphere of her photos, I also love who she gets to shoot.

Beck

Spoon

Liars

 M. Ward

Jason Schwartzman

Michel Gondry

She’s also done countless album covers and directed videos for bands…looking through her photos you will probably find some images you find familiar.

enjoy!
